Mrs. Kyuuma Kyayesu, a widow living in Kitongo Cell, Kassanda Town Council, had been struggling to make ends meet after the loss of her husband many years ago. When she approached our office for support, we conducted a home assessment to understand her family’s situation better.
The assessment revealed a dire situation: the family of many children lacked basic necessities like bedding, clothing, and were not attending school. Some children showed signs of malnutrition, and the house was in a state of disrepair, posing a significant risk to their safety.
Moved by the family’s plight, we enrolled the children in our OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children) program and prepared a profile to seek support from our foreign partners. Fortunately, they responded positively and generously donated funds to build a new house for the family.
With the donated funds, we constructed a two‑roomed house with a VIP latrine, complete with cement flooring and plastering. The family also received essential domestic items, including bedding, blankets, bed sheets, plates, cups, and clothing. Additionally, the house was equipped with solar power for lighting.
To support Mrs. Kyayesu’s economic empowerment, we provided her with a start‑up capital of UGX 600,000 to initiate a business of her choice. She also received an IGA (Income‑Generating Activity) project consisting of two piglets.
Furthermore, the children were awarded full school bursaries, enabling them to attend school and pursue their education. Our intervention transformed the family’s life, and they now live a happy and dignified life.
This success story highlights the impact of our work and the kindness of our partners in making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable families.
